Pipi Holo Ka'ao
(A well-told tale travels far and wide)
Ka'anapali is rich with history and legends and the Ka'anapali Beach Resort offers a free tour highlighting the area's storied past. Starting at the north end of Ka'anapali at the Plantation Farm & Ancient Village of Kekaa (Royal Lahaina Resort), the guided tour stops at 10 sites marked by lava rock monuments with plaques that explain their significance. It continues south with captivating stories about Maui: Kekaa Landing Pier, which operated for years as the primary shipping point for Maui sugar; the legend of Puu Kekaa, the famed dark lava rock promontory that was revered as a sacred ka leina a ka uhane, or place where the soul leaps into eternity; and Koko O Na Moku Race Track which hosted horse races enjoyed by Hawaiian royalty and laborers alike. The tour ends at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa.
The “Ka'anapali Historial Trail” tour runs approximately two hours from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. every Tuesday and Friday. Advance reservations are required and check-in is at 8:55 a.m. at the Royal Hale across from the parking lot at the end of Keka'a Drive. The tour is limited to a maximum of 22 guests. The Ka'anapali Trolley takes guests to the first four sites, and the remaining sites are accessed on foot. Visitors can also take a self-guided tour of the trail using a free brochure and map available.
Free guided tours are given twice a week.
